Tacos on the Go

LON-Daily-Dirt-Image-TacosontheGoTacos have always been a quick, easy and delicious way to feed large groups. This taco salad in a bag recipe is a fantastic idea to feed your group of wheelers with minimal mess or prep! All the ingredients can be assembled ahead of time and stored for your trip. This no mess, no fuss meal is a great trail addition to your typical Taco Tuesday.

Ingredients

These ingredients can be prepped before your trail adventure and easily stored in your cooler to be assembled at meal time, or you can easily prep this over a campfire on the trail!

  • Ground Beef (1 lb feeds about 3 people)
  • Taco Seasoning (1 packet per pound)

  • Onions
  • Shredded Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Shredded Cheese (Mexican blend)
  • Sour Cream
  • Salsa/Picante Sauce
  • Doritos individual bags/snack size (original nacho cheese flavor)

Charlene Tip: You can make a healthy version by swapping out the ground beef for ground turkey and Tostitos for the Doritos.

Directions

LON-Daily-Dirt-Image-TacosontheGoPreparation:
Brown your meat in a pan until thoroughly cooked. Add Taco Seasoning packet and diced onion to the meat while cooking. Let cool and store in airtight container for use on the trail (a ziplock baggie will work). Dice your tomatoes and store in an airtight container.

Assembly:
Open your snack size Dorito bags, scoop in desired amount of the meat and onion mixture, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Once you have filled the bag, hold the top closed and shake to mix the ingredients. Open your bag back up and enjoy!

Charlene Tip: You can also pre-assemble your portions in a ziplock baggie. Just make sure you don’t add chips until you are ready to eat or they might get soggy!

This meal is meant to be enjoyed at room temperature. If you wish to heat your meat and onions, you can either cook your meat on the trail or quickly reheat your meat in a pan over the campfire! Whichever way you choose to make it, we are sure you’ll enjoy your trail tacos! Just make sure to pack out what you pack in!
