Questions & Answers

Amy Volmer-LON MemberAbout Amy:

Q: What is your favorite color?
A: "Pink"

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: "Mexican candy"

Q: Do you have kids?
A: "My son, Kyle is 17 years old.  As a kid he had his moments but as a teenager he’s become a very responsible young man. Kyle’s a smart kid, advanced classes, leadership groups in school, like all teenagers in my opinion he plays video games too much but he’s great at flying a drone. Kyle drives his sister to and from school, band practices and picks up groceries while I’m at work.  He’s become a huge help to our family. My daughter, Nicole is 16 years old. She’s a social butterfly, she’s in the school band and loves playing music. This year Nicole is playing the Marimba, I have no idea where she gets her musical talent from, definitely not me.  Nicole cannot keep her room clean to save her life but she’s been making dinner for Kyle and I since she was a little girl.  Like Kyle, she’s in advanced classes and leadership groups in school. Kyle and Nicole were game changers in my life but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’m grateful for being given two extremely remarkable kids!"

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: "My best friend Gloria (9-year-old English Mastiff), Charlie and Marley (dachshunds)"

Q: Do you take your pets off-roading?
A: "No"

Q: How often do you get to go off-roading?
A: "3- 4 weekends a month"

Q: How did you get started in the off-road world?
A: "I asked some friends/clients of mine to help me sell me Jeep (at the time completely stock) and they convinced me to go on a jeep run with them and the San Diego Jeep Club.  First time I ever went off-roading was the with the San Diego Jeep Club Pole Line Jeep run on January 2, 2016 after that, I was hooked!"

Amy Volmer-LON MemberQ: Where is your favorite place to wheel?
A: "In Moab, UT favorite trail was Top of the World"

Q: Do you belong to an off-road club? Which one? What is their motto/mission?
A:
"San Diego Jeep Club is a 'Just for Fun' club. There’s no monthly dues, no mandatory meetings and no fees to pay! We simply ask that your Jeep be in excellent working order, you have a CB radio when we hit the trails and that you have an excellent attitude when hanging out with your fellow Jeep People, that's all!"

Q: What is on your off-roading bucket-list?
A: "I’ve wheeled all over Moab, Sedona, Big Bear, I’ve done the Rubicon trail and now my next adventure is the Rebelle Rally. My main goal isn’t just an off-roading goal, it’s a general life goal. I want my kids and other people to go outside and live their life. Our lives are so driven by electronics people forget what real life adventures and spending time together is like. I want my kids to know they can accomplish any obstacle in their lives indoors or outdoors. There’s always going to be boulders in life but there isn’t anything you can’t go over or get around."

Q: How are you active in the off-road world?
A: "I’m a member of the Black Ops Team within the San Diego Jeep Club. As a member of the San Diego Jeep Club and the BlackOps Team, we take it upon ourselves to train and guide new Jeep enthusiasts by pre-running trails and identifying safe trails for new members to enjoy, we hold safety training events, we promote and participate in events like our annual Toys for Tots on the USS Midway.  Last year we raised over $2,000 in one day for the Imperial Valley Food Bank in November 2016. We’re always trying to help our community whether on the trails or off. "

Amy Volmer-LON MemberAmy's Off-Road Stories:

Q: What is your most memorable offroad moment?
A: "Driving a mountain edge in Sedona and being scared to death and shaking while climbing the muddy mountain side in the rain with a straight drop down on my passenger side with both of my kids with me. I felt the Jeep slipping the more we went up the mountain. My group was basically stuck going up the mountain until we could find a big enough area to try and turn around, my kids kept telling me not to look to the side and that we were going to be fine. I’ll never forget the encouragement and strength my kids gave me on that mountain, they were just as scared as I was but didn’t show it (until we got off the mountain)."

Q: What was your first wheeling trip?
A: "January 2, 2016 Pole Line (Salton City, CA)"

Q: What was your longest wheeling trip?
A: "Our trip to Moab, UT. We were out there wheeling for a week plus the time it took driving there and back"

Q: What was your favorite wheeling trip?
A: "Moab, UT my kids were with me the entire time and it was an adventure we will never forget. Taking a family picture on the Top of the World is priceless! It was a long trip for 3 of us in a 2 door Jeep, I wouldn’t have changed a thing"

Q: Who do you look up to in the industry? Why?
A: "The Board Directors of the San Diego Jeep Club and Black Ops- They’re a patient group of Jeepers that help new Jeepers learn how to wheel.  They do not judge you by your vehicle or modifications, they just want to teach people to be safe and how to respect the trails."

Q: How do you feel as a woman in the off-road industry?
A: " I think I’m extremely lucky to wheel with the people in my club. I was able to learn a lot from a great group of experienced drivers that didn’t treat me like a 'girl'."
