2017 Ladies Offroad Challenge Training Weekend – SDHQ Off-Road Shop Tour

Author: Jessica Greenland

When you can spot some big modified trucks and Jeeps from the road you are on, you know you have to stop to check them out and see where they came from. SDHQ Off-Road is very large and inviting. They are one step in to building your vehicle for a Baja trip. The 50th Annual SCORE Baja 1000 is just around the corner, and you have to check this place out!

SDHQ Off-Road offers a full line of offroad parts for retail, from bolts to fabrication for any offroad build you may have. You can see all the awesome offroad trucks, Jeeps, and vehicles when you pull into the parking lot. We were greeted by Joey and Ryan, who would be our tour guides for our visit. The company was started in 1999 and has been going strong ever since. SDHQ has a long list parts, from electrical wires to wheels and tires. As well as custom builds for customers and any offroad enthusiast.

As we entered the garage area, we saw a Chevrolet Blazer getting custom suspension for an overlanding expedition. Joey told us that SDHQ does everything from suspensions to motor swaps. Long-term projects fill eight bays on one side of the garage with short-term projects on the other. The first thing that caught my eye was a Jeep Rubicon JKU with the chassis taken off getting prepared for a full Hemi swap. Joey said they were working on the coils as well. There was also an old Jeep CJ5 Renegade in the back, receiving a full electrical overhaul in addition to new wheels, BFGoodrich tires, and custom seats to boot.

As we returned to the retail area, I was amazed by more than 100 wheels on display. They carry them in stock, so you can look and buy in the same day. We rounded the corner with all the brake parts and recovery equipment you can imagine. At the next stop, we saw a variety of seats you can install in your offroad vehicle, ranging from basic to racing style 5-point harness seats. Of course, we had to try on the fireproof race suits. We looked very stylish with our impact helmets on. SDHQ also has top of the line COM devices to be able to communicate with your team and drivers.

All in all, SDHQ is a one-stop shop and full-service garage for all your recreational or competitive offroad vehicle needs. Thank you for showing us around, SDHQ. Hope to see you at the SCORE Baja 1000 this year!
